Officially Launched & Unveiled: 6th October
2005 by Dave Fanning
Becky Dunford of Rockarchive gallery Dublin, Dave Allen of Temple Bar
Music Centre & John McCormack of Exclusive Blinds, proudly present
the Wall of Fame, a monumental tribute to some of Irelands favourite
musical heroes. For the first time, Irelands world renowned musical
talent is being acknowledged and celebrated in a permanent outdoor photographic
exhibition, situated in Dublins Cultural Quarter, Temple Bar.
The artists featured on the Wall of Fame were judged by several criteria
- not record sales alone, but also for their genuine pioneering work
in contributing to modern popular music and for showcasing the quality
and range of Irish musical talent on the World stage. It is by no means
a definitive list of the Irish top 12, but each act has been highly
influential in the Irish music scene past and present.
A brief synopsis of the relevance of each artist helpfully and knowledgeably
supplied by Stuart Clark of Hot Press is featured on the Artits page
of this site.
We are delighted that Dave Fanning who has championed Irish music for
the last twenty-five years flicked the switch to reveal the twelve celebrated
Irish music legends.
The Idea:
To create a free, massive gallery of famous Irish musical artists on
the Temple Lane wall of the Temple Bar Music Centre. There are 11 smaller
windows (approx. 6ft x 6ft) and one large window (approx. 20ft x 20ft).
Each window acts as a frame for a photo of a musical act. The photos
will be backlit from dusk every evening so that these stunning images
are viewable day and night and to establish a real night-time feature
for visitors to the Temple Bar area a truly original and exciting
attraction for tourists and Irish people alike.
